Andy Goldsworthy's work, Flow and Time, maps out the flow of energy and relevance of time. Goldsworthy uses a variety of media, from sand to ice, from stone to water, the serpentine pattern is a refletion of flow through the landscape. Because Flow and Time is emphemeral, all of these studies map out a course of time. Time, not as we know it, in seconds, minutes, hours and days. But time, as part of an environmental process.
I am moved by this work because of the message it conveys in essence of time of a specific environmental process such as erosion, evaporation or gravity.

I found his film "Rivers and Tides" to really help see his process and understand his work. The shape he has chosen of the wiggly river form is really amazing to see in ice, leaves, clay, and rocks. His natural history knowledge of nature is also amazing and shows through his natural material use.
