Gruene, Texas

This past Saturday I visited Gruene, Texas. Visiting this small, German settled town is stepping back into the rural history of central Texas. Gruene's motto is "gently resisting change since 1872". While in many cases this approach may not be desired, the little change that Gruene has seen since its early days as a cotton mill town, has resulted in a truly authentic tourism experience. The Gristmill is the restoration of the cotton mill and now has become the most popular restaurant in Gruene, overlooking the Guadalupe River. The Greune Dance Hall, located in the center of town, is used for concert and social events. If traveling between San Antonio and Austin, Gruene is worth a stop.
